Unleash your Inner Wizard in Diagon Alley

Have you ever dreamed of casting magical spells? Or riding on the back of a fire breathing  dragon? Universal Studios Orlando sets the scene where you can do just that! Come and explore Diagon Alley and unleash your inner wizard! Imagine standing at Kings Cross on platform 9 3/4, and stepping through the brick wall right into the magic of the Wizarding World. The first stop for any respectable witch or wizard is Ollivanders. Upon stepping inside you will be greeted by towering walls with thousands of wands to choose from. If you are among the lucky, Ollivander himself will help your wand choose you! If you’re really getting into the spirit of this magical venue, pop into Madam Malkin’s Robes for all Occasions, where any fashion forward witch or wizard can purchase the newest fashions.  Which house do you represent?

There are many spots in Diagon Alley to practice magic with your interactive wand. Bronze medallions embedded in the street mark the spots in front of the shop windows where you can make the magic happen with the correct spell. Use the spell Wingardium Leviosa ( swish and flick ) and watch a feather quill levitate in front of Scribbulus, or quiet the song of the Fwooper Bird with the Silencio spell in the window of the Magical Menagerie shop. Casting spells takes a lot of concentration and energy, and any practicing witch or wizard is sure to work up a hearty appetite. Fortunately, The Leaky Caldron is close by serving up British Pub fare such as Bangers and Mash ( traditional roasted sausages and mash potatoes )  Toad in the hole ( sausage baked in Yorkshire pudding with onion gravy ) Ploughmans feast ( English cheese, crusty bread , cornichon pickles, apple beet salad, Branston pickle and a Scotch Egg ). Quench your thirst with Wizards brew or Dragon Scale ( new draught beers) or for young witches and wizards Fishy Green Ale, Tongue Tying Lemon Squash or Butter Beer.

This is a little know fact, but practicing magic gives you an insatiable sweet tooth. So, be sure to save room for some ice cream at Florean Fortescue’s Ice Cream Parlour. Offering over 20 unique flavors such as Earl Gray and Lavender, ( my personal favorite ) Chocolate Chili, Sticky Toffee Pudding, Clotted Cream, Salted Caramel Brownie and Butter Beer, just to name a few.

After fueling up, and still on a sugar rush from all that ice cream, it is time to take on Voldermort at the Escape from Gringotts ride. Enter through the bank where Gobblin tellers are hard at work. Travel deep into the caverns below Gringotts Bank aboard a mine cart, where you will join Harry, Ron and Hermione in an attempt to steal and destroy the Horcrux in Bellatrix Lestrange’s vault! Attacking trolls will try to block you every step of the way! Twisting, turning and plummeting, perhaps to a fiery death! You will be thwarted along the way by Bellatrix and he who shall not be named! Who will prevail? Well, my dear witches and wizards, you will have to take a ride and find out for yourself.

If you are the type of witch or wizard that dabbles in the dark arts, you are most certainly going to want to duck into Knockturn Ally, where the darkness awaits! Be sure to stop by Borgin and Burkes, where you can pick up some dark arts artifacts and practice sinister spells ( but, don’t let Hagrid find out ).

After a long day of exploring  Diagon Alley, it’s finally time to head back to Hogsmeade on the Hogwarts Express ( with your park to park ticket ). Join Harry, Ron and Hermione on their trip back home. Be sure to keep an eye out for any unwanted guests ( Dementors ) boarding the train with you. During your journey, watch out the window for some old friends to guide you along the way. With some luck, you will arrive safely back home!
