Review: Bon Voyage Adventure Breakfast

Disney World has many options for character meals. You can meet all sorts of characters, but some of the most popular meals feature Princesses. Princess meal options include, 1900 Park Fare, Cinderella’s Royal Table, Akershus and the newest addition, Bon Voyage. This awesome addition debuted last year and has been gaining popularity. The Bon Voyage Breakfast is hosted at Trattoria al Forno, which is located at Disney’s Boardwalk Inn and Villas. The Boardwalk is a perfect setting to start your little morning adventure. The charming resort offers a 1/4 mile long Boardwalk, full of fun places to explore.

Trattoria al Forno is typically an Italian table service restaurant – I don’t know what gave that away? That said, the restaurant itself, is very beautifully decorated. It boasts dark woods, bold furnishings and an open kitchen. During breakfast service, Character merchandise can be found in the waiting area. Once you sit down at your table, you will be greeted with a cast iron pan full of pastries. Kind of like the one Rapunzel has been seen with, only this one is full of deliciousness.

You’ll also be offered fruit and yogurt and then you will be able to select your entree. As most of my meals at Disney are buffet, it was nice to have the fresh food come to me. I thought the menu selection was good and easy to find something that most people will enjoy. My husband enjoyed King Triton’s Shipwreck al forno, which he described as a “breakfast calzone”. My daughter had Flounder’s Flapjacks and I had the Royale Breakfast. The Royale Breakfast was awesome, it had steak, a small souffle-like egg topped with crab and a cream sauce and potato wedges on the side. The steak alone was delicious. I’m usually very picky about meat and cut around any sort of fat, but I ate every single bite of this dish.

Now for the characters! The breakfast features Rapunzel, Flynn Rider, Ariel and Prince Eric. As usually, the characters were out and about during our breakfast and came over one by one. They were perfectly in character and Flynn was definitely my favorite. My daughter was extremely shy this morning and not into this experience at all. I was surprised I even got pictures with any of the characters – that’s how timid she was. Flynn came over to her and she was super nervous. Flynn came down on his knee and talked to my daughter for a few minutes and secretly showed her Rapunzel’s crown, which was in his satchel. My daughter finally relaxed a little bit and took a picture with him and eventually the princesses. However, she was not into Prince Eric. He was too royal, I guess.

Overall, I visited 8 table service restaurants during my stay and this was by far, my favorite. I thought the food and service were superior to all places. I may be partial because we were staying at the Boardwalk, but it was nice to be away from the crowded areas. I think the location alone adds to the morning adventure.

Planning Tip: Schedule this breakfast on an off park day, so you can explore the Boardwalk or visit Hollywood Studios or Epcot on this day. Both are within walking distance of this resort.

Oh and because Disney’s Dining Plan comes with a beverage…my husband and I had to indulge…at every meal. Gotta get your money’s worth – amiright? Cheers!
